COACHd – your weekly coaching update | April 8, 2022

Friday, April 8, 2022

Hi Simon,

Welcome to this weeks Get COACHd on Friday.

For some, networking events have now started back face to face. We have had to come out from behind our zoom and team cameras, dust off the best networking clothes, polish those shoes, and feel those nervous bumblings in the tummy as we walk into that new environment. We psyche ourselves up so that everything is going to be OK. Then someone asks us

“And what do you do?”

We go into panic – so what is it I do? I am a coach, seems lazy, but you cant get that out of your mind. Unassumingly “I am a coach” passes from your mouth.

But what does this mean? What do you mean by the phrase “I am a coach”. Do I help people, hold space for good conversation, and offer advice for clients to grow, or run an under five football or netball team?

What does “I am a coach” mean to you?

The perception and personal definition of this are massive. I find myself trawling the questions:-

  • Who is it that I work with?
  • Who is my ideal client?
  • What client invites me to deliver a 10/10?
  • How do I shine? Where do I shine?
  • What gives me permission? What doesn’t give me permission?
  • Who won’t I work with?

We come to labels that we have created. “I am an executive coach, a life coach, a business coach, a career coach, an existential coach, a narrative coach, a walking coach…..

What do these ‘lazy’ definitions mean and what overlap in the definition do you share with the person you are talking to?

How can you describe in a bit more narrative what it is that you actually do without perhaps using these terms – I am a coach!

“So, what do you do?”

On 13th of April at 19:30, I am hosting an evening event inviting you to think about how you brand yourself. Check out here for more information about this free workshop.

Oh – and now online – the COACHd archive...

I have 2 places available for the coaching development and supervision cohort. Please do look here for more information and for the first step to apply for this. When these places have gone, they are gone and the next cohort is likely to be a September start.
