COACHd – your weekly coaching update | March 18, 2022

Friday, March 18, 2022

Hi Simon,

Welcome to this weeks Get COACHd on Friday.

A few weeks ago, my eagerly awaited Summit magazine arrived. This is the quarterly climbing magazine from the BMC (British Mountaineering Council).

There was a reminder as to the beauty of the world we live in, and one article draws me to the mountains again. A pair of walkers talked about climbing up Tryfan (a gorgeously rugged mountain in North Wales). Not a normal climb up, but leaving at 4am by headtorch, the aim was to be on the tops for the sunrise. I could feel the cold air entering my lungs, and the heart pumping as I reminisce about similar previous excursions. The climbers reached the summit just on time for the sunrise. The sun peeping through the valley covered in swirling cloud – a beautiful site. One paragraph spoke to me –

“We rolled the time-lapse (camera), flew the drone and then decided to put the cameras away and enjoy the sun rising. This is an important thing when you are out, if time allows, its almost criminal not to stop and enjoy the moment and appreciate the environment around you. It’s easy to get swept away with your phone or camera, there is a happy medium to reach”

In this crazy world, just stopping and remembering joys from the past are inspiring, rebasing and worthy of that reflection. If you do want to go into the hills, please do it safely. Some good webinars are over at the BMC in a series of 4 specific one-hour live zoom sessions.

We know that getting outdoors is good for us and breaking the zoom or teams culture that we have become so engrossed in is hard. In an hour, I am running a 2-day online programme, I am now just about to go for a 30-minute walk in the sunshine.

  • How am I going to do this?
  • How could you do this?

We need to allow time in what you are doing – a slight readjustment. As we know, we need to first start with committed action. That was simple eh! Now get to it!

I have 2 places available for the coaching development and supervision cohort. Please do look here for more information and for the first step to apply for this. When these places have gone, they are gone and the next cohort is likely to be a September start.

Finally – see the link below for Choice Magazine – a fantastic quarterly magazine looking at coaching techniques and news. Use code FRIENDSOFCHOICE10 at the checkout and get an additional 10% off – as a gift from me.

Now to todays collection of news and writings from all world coaching!
