Ooooo – its Black Friday today, so I have been thinking a bit about minimalism this week.

Minimalism is about living with less to focus on what’s most important. It’s not just about getting rid of stuff—although that can be an essential first step—but also cutting back on nonessential activities and eliminating distractions so you can focus on what matters. You can clear space for joy, gratitude, and peace by simplifying your life.

How do you start?

Start with a physical declutter. Get rid of things you don’t need, and be ruthless about them. Donate, sell, recycle or upcycle the items no longer helpful to you—and give yourself a deadline for completing this task.

If you are motivated by reward – set up a reward system for every ten items you get rid of: perhaps an evening out with friends or some new clothes that fit your new minimalist lifestyle better than your old wardrobe.

Think about how much time each thing in your life costs you and consider whether it’s worth keeping around. Do any activities add value or detract value to/from your life? How could those activities be streamlined, so they take up less time?

Think about your digital footprint. What is the purpose behind the files that you save? Content is ubiquitous now – why save that circle of life template again? There is a caveat, as there always is – some things are non-negotiable such as legally required documents (think tax, financial records, notes from meetings if your insurance requires -note to self….).

If interested, the best way to start with minimalism is by starting small. Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to rid your entire house of clutter in one day or even one week! Take it slow and work on getting rid of things one category at a time. Set aside time every other day to declutter an area that you feel is too cluttered (like the kitchen countertop) and keep going until everything feels right again.

If you are sitting on the fence about getting some coaching or coaching supervision, then perhaps we should have a chat. For sessions booked through here – all proceeds will go to the Save the Children Somalia Charity Appeal.

So to today – Enjoy the reads!
