Hello
Welcome to this weeks – Get COACHd on Friday.
Sometimes we forget how powerful some of the tools in our armoury are. One such tool that I frequently use is visualisation. Working with clients, I support and encourage them to use their imagination to create a mental image or scenario usually associated with an outcome. This helps them to enhance their motivation, focus, and belief in their ability to achieve their goals. Really, what we are doing is assisting our clients to tap into their inner resources and develop a clear vision of what they want to accomplish.
… and it is not just about our clients. We can also apply visualisation techniques into what we do. Over the years, business owners (and I put myself into this category), have what I technically call a ‘wobble’. This ‘wobble’ impacts our confidence and ability to see past the challenge ahead. However, using a picture or an image of success can help us to achieve the outcome required.
I often make reference to the luge in the winter Olympics. It is not uncommon to see the rider standing at the top of the run visualising the course that they are about to go down – feeling the corners and practicing achieving balance.
So, visualisation can help in
- Achieving goals
- Improving Confidence and Self-Esteem
- Enhancing Performance and Overcoming Obstacles
The reflective question – if we know that this practice can really work, then why not fire it up and use it yourselves to tackle the niggling doubts that we sometimes have.
Just imagine the possibilities.
